What Backups Arrangements Are Available?

Each server has RAID5 disk protection, providing some protection from data loss in the event of a disk failure.

Customers are however strongly recommended to take their own backups of critical date and download them offsite or purchase the optional backup service.

However it is strongly recommended that customers take the additional backup option. Backup data space on a separate network storage server is available.

Backup Option

Xtraordinary manage the backup process. A full LVM snap-shot image of the VPS is taken. At any one point in time we store:

• The most recent weekly backup
• The most recent daily backup

• Each Monday morning at 2am we take a full backup image.
• Every other day of the week at 2am we take another additional fresh backup image.

If today it is Thursday at 10am then we will have stored:

• full weekly backup from Monday at 2am
• full daily backup from Thursday at 2am

Backup timings will vary between different customers and VPS plans

Can I specify my backup scheduling and timings?

Not at present, we will consider this for the future.

Where are backups stored?

Backups are stored on separate storage servers in the same Datacentre as the VPS servers.

What happens if I don't take the backup options and the host server hardware fails completely?

If the host server fails and data is lost and not recoverable then your VPS will be reinstated as a fresh Windows installation, all your data and configurations will be lost.

How likely is a total hardware failure of the host system?

Relatively low risk but failure of hardware or corruption of data is possible. If your data is important to you we strongly suggest taking the backup option or alternatively taking regular downloads of data.
